My sweet friends, Gigi (creator of the aweSOME Empress button, oh--yah) of KludgyMom, and Melissa of MieletLait, have created an amazing and much needed niche-filler of a website known as TheBlogger'sConcierge.
How I wish there would have been a go-to resource like this for a newbie like me back on Feb. 27. Visiting and joining their site will save you a lot of spills, chills, and not so pleasant thrills. Gigi and Melissa are two friendly, kind, smart, and techno savvy women who will help you with whatever you wish your blog to be.
This post is prepared in response to their post today requesting A-Lister submissions. Here's my take on "Being an A-Lister." I hope I am successful in conveying something you can relate to. (which is my wish...always.)
--------------------------------------------------------------
Being an A-lister. Say that over a few times, what does it mean to you? Google defines an A-lister as someone who is perceived as major, massive, leading, cool, outstanding, what everyone else is talking about, those above the regular masses.
The key to that definition is in the word perceived. Those that are PERCEIVED. What google doesn't tell us is perceived by whom? With that working definition, we are ALL A-LISTERS. If we perceive ourselves that way, then we are.
This is not a "feel-good believe it and be it pep rally" post, but rather one that allows me to write a post stating why I can be an A-lister, right?
What if I think that I am all that? What if I think that what I do is good, and that the people who come back think I'm good? So, then, that makes me perceive that TheEmpress has got it goin' on. Perceive is a big part of the definition, remember.
It is with this premise in mind, that I submit this post to TheBlogger'sConcierge for review as to why I think I'm an A-Lister.
I can call myself an A-Lister because my readers come back and make me feel that I am.
I can call myself an A-Lister because I carefully prepare what I write, so my readers don't feel they wasted their time coming here.
I can call myself an A-Lister because I truly like all the internet friends I've made, and I hope I've made them feel as wanted as they've made me feel.
I can call myself an A-Lister because I try very hard to visit everyone that comes here, it may take a week, but I try.
I can call myself an A-Lister because I care about the people that come here, and if I can help them in any way that they need it, I try to.
An A-Lister is someone who tries to make the world a little bit better, in whatever way they can, with whatever gift or ability they've been given. It's not about stats, or number of comments you get per post, or how many people are following you.
So, now, I don't have to feel that I'm banging my drum, tooting my horn, crowing about, calling myself an A-Lister, because according to the above, an A-Lister is all good things.
My sincere hope is that all of you reading this also submit yourselves for the A-List at Gigi's and Melissa's place, because I truly believe that all the women I've met since I began this blog, are A-Listers. Click over to TheBlogger'sConcierge and link up your post telling what makes you unique, and something that brightens our lives out here in the virtual world. Don't discount yourself as an A-lister because you think you don't have the street creds of large masses of followers, or beaucoup comments.
Knowing Gigi and Melissa the way I do, the A-Lister definition to them is not about numbers, analytics, followers, but about you and your special place in the blogosphere. So, go out of your comfort zone, link up, and write a post on why YOU are an A-Lister. [placing PomPoms down on floor now--sorry, lied about the pep rally part]
Peace.
P.S. good things can happen when you step out of your comfort zone. That's how I started this blog...

We're blushing! We can't thank you enough for such a royal introduction to your readers!
ReplyDeleteI just may submit. Even though my whole schtick is insisting that I suck and swatting away compliments like so many annoying skeeters.
ReplyDelete;)
Woohoo! I'm cheering right along with you. A-listers, galore is what I see when I read in my own little corner of this wide wonderful blogosphere. Today I'm an A-lister because I fearlessly posted about dirty donuts even though my parents read my blog. :) Goooood times!
ReplyDeleteYou are so much an A-Lister! You write, you listen, you communicate your goodness into the world. I always come away a bit wiser and much more smiley after a visit here, and it's because of your work.
ReplyDeleteI may just submit...!
Well, you are always an A-Lister in my book, sweetie!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm so proud of those two chickies for building that site for all us newbies!
You SO are a A-lister! And the same reason we started our blog was to step out of our comfort zone. you and many others have embraced us. love you for that!
ReplyDeleteYou are beyond a A-lister! I believe you to be one of the best. Keep it up! Paul B
ReplyDeleteYou are an A-Lister Empress, no doubt about it.
ReplyDeleteMe? Might be more like my daughters report card ; )
You sound like an A-lister to me!
ReplyDeleteOh, and I always considered myself an A-lister in my own mind... Aren't we all? :)
Thanks for the clarification on "A-lister"!! haha. You are so good to give them such props. I need to get my butt in gear now...
ReplyDeleteYou are a bona-fide A-Lister to me!
ReplyDeleteI love that you take the time to read other journals, especially with having a busy family life.
I love how you write too. Your journal is always fun to read while I'm working. Keep it up!
You definitely are an a-lister in my blogroll.
ReplyDeleteYou're cool beans and the uber A-Lister. And you started blogging on my birthday, so it just had to work, right? I love this. Very good. I had lost myself and I have recently gotten back on the road to finding myself. I can now yell, "I'm an A-Lister! If you don't like it, blah." Thanks for adding to that. :)
ReplyDeleteI guess this post is for women because we men don't list shit...we just do.
ReplyDeleteBeing out of my comfort zone makes me... well, you know... uncomfortable. But you definitely qualify as an A-Lister!
ReplyDeleteagree with luckydame.... you are a bona fide A Lister !
ReplyDeleteTotally with you on going out of my comfort zone (and violating my own 'never ever starting a blog' principles) to start blogging. Your concierge pals sound great. And I agree with all your A-list criteria.
ReplyDeleteI love this and I agree with you! A-Listers have heart, and you most certainly have that!
ReplyDeleteGreat post and good for you giving yourself kudos - we none of us do so often enough in life and it makes such a difference when we do.
ReplyDeleteYou are so dutiful in your A-Lister requirements!
ReplyDeleteYou're definitely an A-lister! (And I was a teacher for many years so I know an "A" when I see one!) ;)
ReplyDeleteEmpress, we love you for ALL of the above and we are so glad to have found you!
ReplyDeleteYou are an A-lister! :) :) :)
Big hug to you!
Baby you are the definition of A-List. Google has it WRONG.
ReplyDeleteThis is fabulous - and perfecty timed. It's easy to feel unworthy in the blogosphere and it's certainly put things in perspective for me. But you, my dear Empress, are utmost A-List!
ReplyDeleteMy middle child history causes me to rebel and shake my "not-so-teenaged" fist at the world and say "I didn't want to be part of your club, ANYway!" even though I did want to be included, all along.
ReplyDeleteYou are definitely an A-Lister, if not A+ Lister! Love this post - what a great idea:)
ReplyDeleteI hate feeling though I've wasted time. No wasted time here - DEFINITE A LISTER!
ReplyDeleteYou are the best. I can't really say any more than that :). thanks for the kind words and support. xoxo
ReplyDeleteYou are good for a giggle "putting the pom poms down. sorry I lied" hahaha. This is a great post.
ReplyDeleteOh...the A-list!! I'm lovin' YOUR definition.
ReplyDeleteYou are definitely an A+ lister sister (say that ten times fast. I did it and sounded like Cindy Brady by number 4 (-:)
ReplyDeleteAn excellent post, Alexandra! How I wish there was something like that site when I first began blogging, flying by the seat of pants!
ReplyDeleteI don't call myself an A lister. I'm a fly under the radar type of person. Weird, huh?
If you're not on your own A-list you need to rethink your outlook on life!
ReplyDeleteI'm SO excited about their new site and I think you are for sure an A-lister!
ReplyDeleteRemembering that we're all people, all potential a-listers is a good thing to keep in mind on those dark days when we don't feel the mojo working.
ReplyDeleteWhich reminds me of this post over on IttyBiz (tangentially related--I swear, something's in the air!)
http://ittybiz.com/crossing-the-red-line/
That, and the whole "It's Art" convo from Mona Lisa Smile--it's not a-list until someone says it's a-list! Good for you for saying it :)
This is what I have to say and I am shouting this from the rooftops.
ReplyDeleteYou are the QUEEN of the A-listers. THE QUEEN! Do you hear me?
And you're right, it is not about stats or followers, but about the credibility and passion and exuberance you bring to blogging.
And Gigi and I agree wholeheartedly that you are the Fairy Blogmother. You forgot to add this to your A-list list. An A-lister holds out a hand, lifts other writers up and opens their eyes with their kindness, and incredible support.
You have done that for me, time and time again and in the scope of life, you are one of the most genuine and inspiring people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing.
Thank you for taking me out of my comfort zone. I'll never forget it.
This will be a great site. I'm going to check it out right now and nominate you for our Queen.
You are definitely an A-lister in my book! Especially if those are the qualifications. Off to visit that site now...
ReplyDeleteI think I'm usually only on The Shit List.
ReplyDeleteYou are definitely on my A-List. Thanks for the great introduction to The Blogger's Concierge. If you say they are that good, then I gotta check em out. xoxoxoxo
ReplyDeleteTime for the mohawk baby, you're part of the A-Team. ;) Thanks for stopping by my blog so I could meet you! Hilarious and fun blog. THANKS! :)
ReplyDeleteAnyone who can start blogging at the end of February and already have so many loyal readers and bloggy friends . . . a total A-LISTER! I'm so glad that our bloggy universes have intersected!
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm a huge fan of yours and Gigi's...so I will definitely check out the new site! I don't know Melissa (yet), so I'll give her a visit as well.
ReplyDeleteYou are definitely an A-Lister and your list is wonderful! I think what makes a blogger an A-Lister is your first point...your readers keep coming back.
Very cool. You are an A-Lister in my book, Baby!
ReplyDeleteI'm on it. Thanks for the tip!
ReplyDeleteYou are certainly on the top of my list Every comment you leave me, makes me day, honestly. Thank you for that,so so much
ReplyDeleteA-List to the MAX!
ReplyDeleteI love that there is something called a Blogger's Concierge!! Such a cool concept.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love the definition of A-Lister in this post.
I am the eleven millionth person to comment, so it certainly makes me a little late to the par-tay. It took me three hours to read because I was continually and rudely interrupted by my children....who were insisting on going from the pool to the sand box and into the house...argh!...Hilarious post. Thank you for existing on this earth. I am humbled to be in your presence.
ReplyDeleteAnd The Blogger's Concierge? Genius.
Peace out.
