You said it well, Alexandra! Forty allows you to exhale. Fifty allows you to see.

  4. Awww! Empress! For some reason, I almost cried when I read that. Come here, let me give you one big bear hug!

I love what you've said. I am going to remember you every time I see a red bell pepper now!

The earthworm part had me smiling so much! Too cute :)

Here's to all the Mums in the world. Kids wouldn't be kids without You in their worlds. Cheers to you!

p.s. you have to promise not to make me cry next time. (I already cried for you too!!)

  7. Nicely said, Empress. I agree with Feeling Just Right, above. Regarding your post, it is interesting that children also possess the ability to live in the moment and find wonder in everything. And I've also noticed that some lucky people never lose it the way many of us do. My StepMom is one of those. She'd get stressed out sometimes, sure-five kids and a full time job will do that for a person-but then she'd pick up a rock off the side of the road and say, "Oh, look at this one-how beautiful" and she'd slip it in her pocket. It's my very favorite thing about her.

  9. Sweet Empress, Thanks for stopping by and leaving me a note, your awesome!!! To answer your question, yes we are constructing a website right now and it should be up and running soon. I will be posting short story's, poetry and excerpts from my book on my blog and on the website so I will announce what I am doing along with a great group of writers that I have the good luck to hang out with. Also will be doing interviews and spotlighting other writers. Its going to be fun:)

  13. Hi Alexandra - an absolutely beautifully written post, without doubt one of your very best. I agree, as we get older, we do appreciate life more in some ways, but I also think that for you and I combining that with having a young child really accentuates so much of what you mention, watching them marvel at the world and understanding people so much more and in turn tolerating, being more patient etc.

There is so much wisdom and so much of you in that post. I wish I weren't going crazy right now (have to get up in a few hours to catch our flight) but once I'm settled I will read your whole post and write again then.

  16. Congrats, heading over to check you out there...I'm working on that spareribs recipe for you. On the grill huh? I usually start them in the oven and then move them to the grill. Would that work for you? They just taste so yummy when they're cooked low and slow.

    Lots of yummy love,

  18. First of all, I am thrilled to see the title 50-something blogger! I am getting very close...sizzle...to the big 50 and was wondering where my place in blogland will be. Sometimes I think I must be the oldest blogger out there and certainly the oldest twitter-er. I'm off to check out your post! Oh and thanks for stopping at my blog!
