We Drive a Different Kind of Bus

*Transcribed as I sat nonchalantly next to littlest on the sofa, listening, as he had his ear buds in, his iPod on, and sang away to his favorite song -- with no idea what mama was taking notes about.
_ _ _

I've never seen diamonds in the flesh
I cut my teeth on wedding rings
in the moon beams
And I'm not proud of how I dress,
In a torn-up gown
no post re-entry

But every song's like goatees, grey boots, trippin' in the bathroom
Mud stains, ball downs, trash in the hotel room,
We don't care, we're driving Cadillacs in the streets.
And everybody's like crystals, may bells, diamonds on your time peas.
Jet planes, islands, tigers on a gold leaf.
We don't care, we aren't cut up in your lovin' fair.

And we'll never be royals (royals).
It don't run in our blood,
That kind of luck just ain't for us.
We drive a different kind of bus.
Let me be your ruler (ruler),
You can call me Clean Beat
And baby I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule.
Let me lift that fan and see...

My friends and I—we've cracked the code.
We count our dollars on the tray to the party.
And everyone who knows us knows that we're fine with this,
We didn't come from money.

Ooh ooh oh
We're bigger than we ever dreamed,
And I'm in love with being mean.
Ooh ooh oh
Life is great without a care
We aren't cut up in your lovin' fair.

And we'll never be royals (royals).
It don't run in our blood
That kind of luck just ain't for us.
We drive a different kind of bus
Let me be your ruler (ruler),
You can call me Clean Beat
And baby I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule.
Let me lift that fan and see.....

**Added:  This song is "Royals," by recording artist, Lorde, and it's become Auggie's favorite, on eternal loop on his iPod. He sang along again tonight, so clear and loud with his ear buds in, with his own lyrics. The original words to the song are good, but Auggie's are far, far better. Next time, I'm going to tape, because I love Auggie's version so much more.

  1. If this was something you were transcribing and you could hear the words well enough to be able to do it, wouldn't that mean it was loud enough to damage his ears?

  2. Ms. A: Auggie was singing along, clear voiced and to his own lyrics, to this song known as "Royals," sung by the recording artist, Lord. The original lyrics are veeeeeeery close, but Auggie's are far, far better. Since his ear buds were in, I didn't hear the song, but only his rendition. Next time, I'm going to videotape, because I love Auggie's lyrics so much better.

  4. This is so funny! My son and his buddies insist on this song when they are in the car on youth group nights. I have no idea if they have the lyrics right, but I do love hearing them sing.

  6. I LOVE made up lyrics. I remember a few years ago reading a blog that was all made up lyrics sent in. I should check if it's still around and send Auggie's in. I like the "cut up in a wild fair" thing.
