Friday Funny

When Will and Grace ran on NBC, for eight seasons, I tried not to miss an episode.

I loved the show, but I watched because of Sean Hayes, known as "Jack."

In this 1 min 45 sec clip, he and Molly Shannon -- playing Jack's stalker-- make me laugh out loud.

Really, this one, one of my favorite episodes.

Happy Friday!

What Has YouTube Done To Us - Friday Funny

Patton Oswalt is a stand-up comedian, writer and actor. He is best known for voicing Remy from the film Ratatouille and Thrasher from the Cartoon Network original series Robotomy.

This is a short 1:25 sec snippet that is clean, and very funny, about what YouTube has done to us.

I really laugh at 1:13. Cracks me up every time.

Enjoy!

Happy Friday!

Fresh Pots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Coffee:

I love you.

I always knew I loved you. I never had to live the "don't know what ya got till it's gone" with you.

I knew what I had.

Coffee, my coffee, the perfect drink. Black gold. Brings you up, yet calms you down.

Revs you up, powers up the brain. All the cylinders firing.

Like a good Colombian family, our day began with you percolating in the pot, coffee. I received my own first percolator at age three, which my Spanish grandmother would fill with coffee and my brother and I would sit and sip in the warm, sweet soul smoothness of our coffee. We were masters of slowly stirring in the cream till it was the perfect caramel brown.

We just knew how much cream to add, it's part of the DNA we came with.

I was not new to the power of caffeine, oh, no, not then, not now, not ever.

I understood all the coffee jokes, I got it--- I'd even poke fun at my own twitching eyes.

I also confess that it was me that began my husband down this same, indulgent  path. Poor soul, he never stood a chance. One morning, after a particularly focusing round of the bean, I almost had him convinced he could run for president, and win. After one more cup, emitting a Howard Dean primal scream, he was submitting papers.

Coffee. You can have intelligent conversation when you hold a mug in your hand, you are confident with a mug in your hand, you are clever and witty, sharp, focused, and the ideas are firing off in your head like a little boy with a cap gun. You'd be left with such a good feeling, that at times I could scarcely believe that something this good out of Colombia was legal.

My days are built around coffee. Get up, get going, have that cup, be in a good mood, get it all done, do the exercising, the smiling, and wow.. the ideas for the posts... bing bing bing. 50,00 lined up and ready in draft and celebrate me! Woo hoo! Ima get the stuff done today.

I'd finish one cup and start another. People would mention they were cutting down to two a day, and I'd quip, "yeah, me, too... TWO POTS!" Hilarious, coffee made me hilarious.

On the days of that perfect, centering caffeine buzz, where the balance of coffee ingested was just right that you loved everybody and everything and Life is sooooo SO good, you'd look in the mirror and loved that, too, with that youthful, adrenaline cherry flush in your cheeks and only the two second attention span courtesy of coffee to not stare much longer.

To those of you who know just what I'm talking about, your mouth  is already wetting and salivating as you read this post. You have the thought of a good, hot, fresh cup of coffee to hold in your permanently coffee clawed hand, fingers molded by the mug's handle, don't you? You know you can smell it if you close your eyes. Ahhh... nothing. like. it.

But, 'tis a dark day for me here in my small town.

Even my children understand what is happening today. Middlest said today in the car returning from the Doctor, "Mom, I feel so sorry for you. I can't believe you can't have coffee."  Smallest added his points of concern, "You were so much fun, Mom, you'd drink your coffee and then chase us, Mom."  Oldest understands, "Mom, you love coffee. what are you going to do? "

Yes, yes, oh, yes, I do love my coffee.

But, last week, you remember the night, don't you, Coffee?  Where I found myself sitting up in bed all night, unable to sleep, panicking at the symptoms of the worst reflux I have ever had.

Sensations so bad, I almost took myself in to the ER at 3 a.m.

Promising God anything in exchange for surviving the night.

I endured the night and was able to wait it out until morning. I drove to our family health center and sat outside in the parking lot, awaiting the last few minutes out in agony until they opened for the day.  The staff there allowed me to see our family physician before his other scheduled appointments. At the sight of him, along with being so grateful to finally be receiving medical attention, and with the fresh memories of the longest night of my life just hours behind me, my lips were loosed. I let go the floodgates of truth and disclosed the details of my until then secret two pot consuming lifestyle. He, in his $700 cashmere blazer, decreed the unholiest of the unholies, the diagnosis and prescribed medication along with firm orders of "no more coffee."

No more coffee for your overcaffeinated body. Swallow these three pills twice a day and stay away from your coffee.

Like that. Like.that.

And that's how it went down, coffee.

I love you, I miss you, I gaze at you from a safe distance, where you can't hurt me. I think of all who get to cradle you now, both hands encircling their favorite mug this morning,  feeling the warmth of you and the satisfying almost burning hurts so good sensation of you sliding down their throat.

I think of them,  because it can no longer be me.
I watch them, as they gently blow across your smooth surface before they take that slow, measured sip, then I see them close their eyes and softly inhale the steam rising from their cups.
Oh, the magic of that steam, the steam that opens up more than your sinuses; the steam that gives way to confidences exchanged through lowered voices. I know these moments so very well.

I miss you.

I still keep you around, just a small amount, in a rolled up shiny off-white bag, hidden behind the vitamins, so that I can for a minute, open you and inhale you and linger on your seductions. But I have thrown the coffee pot away.

Had to. So powerful is your siren's call to me, so weak is my resistance.

Too many weak moments potential.

Too many "just this once, and then, never again," lurkings.

And, now, here I am, coffeeless, at a loss for what to write about, and the only thing that comes to my mind, is

Coffee, I love you.

I wish I could quit ya.
--------------------------

I am tremendously better since off the joe, and on the healing meds. I haven't slept this good and uninterrupted in ages. I move very slowly, as slow as Uncle Joe, and I do stare blankly back and am stuck for a response when you say "good morning," but I feel good. And I haven't slipped off the wagon yet. Those four nights of sitting up awake, in mid-chested pain, pretty much scared the pants off me. So, yeah, there's that memory keeping me unleaded.

Acceptance Of The Ordinary

September has always been a month to be endured for me.

My birthday has always been a difficult event for me.

Autumn, with it's leaves falling from the trees and to the ground, does the same to me, strips me bare and to the core.

With all 3 occurring, always, at once?

It gets harder and harder to put my shoulder down and just plow through.

September means the end of days filled with sun, hours, and my children about me and within my reach.

My birthday means another year older, with less dreams realized, and the ticking of the clock marching on.

Autumn, with its trees left skeletal, has always reminded me that another year has also lost it's life, and is  coming to an end.

As I said, not.a.good.time for me.

And, I'm faced with the ordinariness.

Of me.

I am ordinary.

I had the dreams of any person for myself.

To write to the point where people reading my words would be able to feel my ache; to be able to dance a barefoot dance so exquisite that to those watching, the sound of the music would fall away; to be able to sing in the clearest voice that those listening would be left unable to move and only to sit, and listen, and not a thing more.

But my life has worked itself to be one of ordinariness. Where I have laid my dreams down.

I am an ordinary woman who stays home with her children.

There is no book that has my name on its cover, there is no ballet where I danced to the point of utter silence, there is no song that anyone heard me sing, that left them breathless.

But, then, I look at my children, and they are the song I didn't sing, the dance that never was, and the book that remains unwritten.

When I look in their eyes, I enter a plane of existence other than the 3 dimensional one we live in. There is no skin nor bone that separates us.

When I catch their faces, turned at such an angle,  that for a split second where time stops, I see the ghost of my face in the curve of their cheek.

No matter how poetically written, or eloquently delivered, the account of my life is that of an ordinary woman.

I am ordinary.

But am I?

Am I really?  [see below]

Gotcha!  * [my apologies if I had you goin' and played on your emotions and made you deeply concerned enough to leave something awesome on here for me......I can be obnoxious like that...I still do not like autumn, my birthday, or September--that doesn't change]

Lifetime Movie Network Originals Present: Celine!!!

A Lifetime Movie Network Original
The Empress, as played by Celine!!!

Stephanie, of DramaMamaasked: "If there was a movie made of your life, what would be the movie, and who would play you and why?"

The answer is the 2008 Lifetime Original Movie, "Through the Eyes of the World: The Greatest Singer in the World: Celine Dion!!!" (..and you do need the 3 exclamation marks when speaking of Celine!!!)

Sad to say, as much as I'd like to ask for Sophia Loren to play my life, in "Nevus," the steamy story of a small Italian village's sultry temptress, I couldn't honestly give that answer (but I would really, REALLY like to...).

Nope. All evidence points to me having to be played by Celine Dion, and end that sentence complete with a rolling hands bow all the way down, forehead to knees.

I have been told more times than I can possibly recount, that I look EXACTLY like Celine Dion. And not as in, "wow, you are so beautiful, you look like Celine",  nor as in "oh, you are so tall, you look like Celine," but as in "wow...your face is so long, you look like Celine," and "your mouth and chin and lips are really weird, like Celine Dion."

The eery similarities continue. We begin with the uncanny facial resemblance to Celine,  and move on to me standing in front of any mirror, at age 12, the same age as Celine was, holding a hairbrush for a microphone, pretending I'm saying "maman! It's me...on the radio!"  ala Celine, and I commence to belt out a haunting, melancholy dirge.  I was forever holding diva concerts in the bathroom, the more heartwrenching the song, the better.

Celine's life and mine paralled each others throughout highschool, also. Like Celine, I was often "without the shoes and always losing the boyfriends."  The boys would tell me, as they told her, "but you are too skinny, and flat," but I, like her, knew I was beautiful. I, like her, "felt the beauty I had ...here...inside..." And we'd both beat our chests and stare out ferociously with that declaration.

Like Celine, you can make me cry--like that! Snap! "And the tears...they come to my eyes."  Just to hear my son say, "maman! and I am in tears."  It is too hauntingly beautiful, the name...the name! of maman!

I end, with these undeniable identical occurrences in Celine's ,and my, life:

*Celine's husband paid for her braces, mine paid for my retainers
.
*Celine often publicly states that her life, her life, it is like a dream!! I often feel myself walking through my day in a foglike dream state, also.

*In the 80's, I had been known to wear my tuxedo dress backwards.

*My eggs are old enough to be in wheelchairs, too.

*I am really skinny.

* I want to be Canadian, please.

*Celine has hit the longest, highest note on record. My neighborhood hears me hit some pretty good ones here at home, when the windows are open for the summer.

*Celine has been known to burst into tears, at the thought of the happiness that surrounds her.  I, too, have been known to burst into tears when I look around and see what surrounds me at home.

And, finally, like Celine, my children will tell you that I am "here, there, wherEVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR they are...I, will be there with them, too................" seeing what they're up to, and what mess has to be swept up next, and finding out who is eating in their bedrooms....

Because, I am Celine Dion, the greatest mother! in the world!

mum mum mum mah Muffintop....

Warning: you WILL spend your entire morning here, playing this over and over and over and OVER....

Happy Canada Day, my lovely Canadian bloggers! It's no secret I crush on Canadian bloggers, one in particular: TheMayor@CrazyTown. She has decreed Friday Funny link up a day earlier, so she can celebrate all things Canadian, and do what they do there on their special day, eh!

So, for the mayor, a day early: Friday Funny Link up with The Mayor on Thursday, showcasing this Lady Gaga goes suburban parody.

Lisa, of Smacksy, (I'm a daily reader there) runs a weekly feature called Smacksy Sunday Link, where I have been shown the neatest, coolest, most unique websites. How she finds them? Well, Lisa is a very cool mother of even cooler Bob. She steered me over to her in-real-life friend's place, Marija of mymomsanerd.blogspot.com (see blogroll, fantastic blog) where I found this genius video. The lyrics are hers, and are on her site, this video is all her brainchild. She is an incredibly talented woman.

A caution, though: You will not be able to get the song out of your head...."mummummumma mah Muffintop...I ain't bluffin'...with mah muffin....mah muffintop. I wanna button 'em like I did in old days..."

ENJOY. And Happy Canada Day to my favorite Canadians. I will try to be more like you, I know we're kinda tense down here....

Mayor's FridayFunnyLinkUp Party Yay WootWoot

It's Friday, and that means Mayor of CrazyTown's Friday Funny link up. The day where I get to showcase all my favorite vids I've been storing.

This one is the comedian Sally Brook's video series on her dysfunctional housewife character, Suzy Jenkins. Suzy Jenkins is a suburban rapper.

Please DO NOT click over if street language offends, because Sally/Suzy is NOT easy on the swears. So, if offended by that kind of thing: DO NOT hit the arrow button. ( Sooooo not kidding on this: F-bombs galore, along with some B-words, S-words...)

For that VERY same reason, DO NOT watch with your children on your lap. Make sure you are: 1. alone 2. have earbuds in 3. have decided you can handle it ....all set? Good. Go put the Depends on for bladder control, and lose it!
