Blogging Bucket Lists - Getting on Huffington Post

I have a three-year-old Post-it note taped to the cabinets above my kitchen's pens pencils papers area. On it are sites that mentors have told me are good places to have my writing published. "Get yourself on Huffington Post," is something that was said to me more than once. And so, "Get yourself on Huffington Post" became an item on my blogging bucket list.

You know what's a good feeling? Checking off one of those items, especially when it's a big one.

I am thrilled to be published on Huffington Post . You can read it here .

If Huffington Post is on your bucket list, you can send them your submission in an email at blogteam@huffingtonpost.com and include the following:

Email with “Blog Submission from Your Name” in the subject line
1.) Your submission of 500-1000 words.  Put the text of your post into the body of the email. No documents or PDFs.
2.) Images with captions. Huffington Post loves images. Everything should be in the same email as an attached JPG. You need to own or secure the rights to use the images and give photo credit and a caption to accompany each image.
3.) Your head shot
4.) Your bio A brief paragraph of who you are and your accomplishments.

Everything should be sent in one email. HuffPo doesn't accept piece meal submissions.

Per Huffington Post: "Huffington Post looks for submissions that are intelligent, well-written and rooted in personal opinion or experience."

Good luck, and keep trying if you don't hear back the first time. Luck favors the numbers.

    1. B, you know, I look at Alec and I just can't believe he'll be gone in a few months. He really was just playing trains with me, it seemed just that short time ago. I can't remember the time in between up until now. It just seemed faster than I can put words to.

  5. What?! That is awesome. Can't wait to check it out. Congratulations! The only thing on my bucket list is to create my own Limoncello and give a drunken interview about it on the view. If I could make Barbara Walters visibly upset in the process, well that would just be a cherry on the sundae! Off to read your HuffPo greatness!

  6. Love.love.love that post over at Huffington. I immediately got teary-eyed when I read, "18 years wasn't long enough." Maybe it's my crazy pregnancy hormones. Or maybe it's because I realize that my oldest is 13 and your post made me stop to think about her childhood. Or maybe it's because I wonder if my two year old will remember me rocking her every night and singing to her. Or this child that I'm still carrying...what will our tradition be and will he remember it? You are right. Even if they don't remember, I will. Parenting is the hardest, best thing I will ever do. Thank you for reminding me to soak it up.

  22. I'm so proud of you. Is it okay that I say that? I consider your family because of our history writing around and with each other. You're why I became a sprocket ink writer.

You're an inspiration and a role model. I bow to your greatness, empress.

  23. Congratulations and thank you so much for this post! It's on my bucket list too and really hope to accomplish this in 2014...or maybe 2015, who knows? Hahah! I was told by someone that it's really difficult to get published on HP and that it's helpful if you know someone from there. That has always discouraged me, so you have no idea how much your post has inspired me again. So....THANK YOU!

  25. How long did you wait to hear back from them?

  26. Apparently the rules have changed a bit where you cannot send your pitch to that email address anymore. There is another place where there's a blog page and that is where using your email.I was very curious and wanted to know when or how long did it take for them to get back to you
