Middle Age, Our Hair, and Why Do People Care?

It's such a hot button. Women, long hair, and their age. People begin to ask a woman once she turns forty, "So, you'll be getting your haircut soon, right? You really can't keep it long once you, you know, get older." Long hair on older women, it bothers a certain few. But why? My opinion, wear it the way you feel suits you. And for your own reasons.

My post on Purple Clover today, Women, their Long Hair... and why do people care?

  1. Loved your article. I SO agree. When it comes to hair, women should do as they please. Why do people think they have a right to comment?

  5. Yes! YES! YESSSSS! {tosses forty-something, past-shoulders hair around; bangs hands on table}. You nailed it. This shouldn't even be a question.

  6. I never heard of this before. I have noticed many women over the age of 40 DO cut their hair; I just assumed it was because it suited them, NOT because they think it's acceptable. You do what suits you.

  7. Good posture and good taste - amen, Alexandra! I don't plan on cutting my hair either. And that was a simply gorgeous pic of you. Love, Hillary

  8. I think that when you have a style that works for you, you should keep it - and it should have nothing to do with age. My hairdresser is older than me and she has long hair. She has confided in me that she thinks she is approaching an age where she should get it cut! I said no way. Do what you want. It's your hair - not anyone else's. Are we all required to look like the Golden Girls?
